Owen and I went this morning to feed the ducks (they say, "wack wack" haha) and then we went to the park to play - it was a hot day so we didn't get to stay long, but still had fun!

I've been fortunate enough to watch Owen during the day while I'm off this summer - he is already quite the character and just so much fun, so I thought I would post some pictures of our summer so far!

My very sweet friend Bethany got married this weekend in Louisville, KY. We went to the wedding and Owen went along too! It was a long trip but he was a total trooper! I think he handled the car ride better than the rest of us! Here are some fun pics from the weekend!

Hotter N' Hell Hundred

We recently participated in the Hotter N' Hell Hundred bike race back in August. I only rode the 100k on Saturday, but Aaron rode a 10 mile off-road race on Friday, the 100 mile road race on Saturday, and a 13 mile run on Sunday. We had a lot of fun!

A day in the life of Owen Banks

Well, typically I get up and hang out for a while in my pajamas. Mom is always wanting to take a bajillion pictures of me for some reason, so I put up with it for a little bit.

Then I play with Jack for a little while. He's so great!

Dad is dressing me today. Who knows what he'll pick out for me to wear. He usually finds a pair of socks for me that don't match at all. Drives Mom crazy!

Actually, Dad didn't do too bad. I look pretty cute! This is my first time to wear this!

Sometimes I'll play Where's Waldo and see if anyone can pick me out of this crowd.

He's my favorite!

I think it might be time for a nap...

I don't mind hangin' out with some cute girls. But entertaining can be pretty tiring! Maddie shared some of her candy with me while I was asleep. Maybe I'll eat it when I wake up!

After almost a week at the hospital in Fort Worth, we finally got to go home! This was one of our many nurses who took exceptional care of us!

We were super glad to be leaving! We went to the hospital on Sunday night about midnight and began induction then. I immediately began having really consistant contractions every two minutes but with no effect. Finally, Tuesday evening, the doctors that were seeing me decided to go ahead and do the c-section and wha-la! Owen arrived. All was well until Thursday night when a huge line of storms moved through the area. Several areas of Fort Worth got hit really hard with hail and one tornado was spotted. The hospital activated their "Code Gray" system because of the severe weather. A nurse came by telling everyone to close the blinds and move everyone to the far side of the room. Several minutes later we were instructed to leave our room and move out into the hall. Owen happened to be visiting us from the nursery then, so he hung out with us in the hall. I wish I had a picture of me during all of this because they told us we might be leaving, so I was wearing my hospital gown, Aaron's house shoes and Aaron's coat. I looked rediculous! A few minutes later they came by handing out really heavy blankets to protect the babies and told us to plan who would carry him in case we had to evacuate! It's getting kind of serious at this point! Then nurses came by and took all of the babies to the nursery to better care for them there in case something happened. Alot of people were freaking out! Some women had just come out of delivery and were in the hallway in their beds with their IV's in and everything. I talked to a nurse in labor and delivery and she said that everyone there had to be moved out of their rooms to the central nurses station. Imagine that!!! Whether you were pushing or not..."Out in the hall you go!" It ended up that all we got was some heavy rain, and eventually we returned to our rooms.

By Friday, Owen became a little jaundiced which meant he would be staying at least another day to get the photo therapy. On Saturday morning, the pediatrician seeing Owen detected a heart murmer and they did an ultrasound of his heart to see exactly what it was. We had to wait for the results of that, but Saturday evening they finally said we could all go home. Because of the severe weather, the hospital policy is to test all of their emergency systems a day or two later. Well that ended up happening right when we were trying to leave. So all of the emergency doors were shut, the elevators didn't work, fire alarms are going off, lights are flashing, and the whole second floor with all of the babies was totally locked down. Aaron had gone to the truck to get some things and couldn't get back in. The nurses were all laughing becuase we finally were allowed to leave and then we couldn't get out!! Instead of rolling me out in a wheel chair like they do with every new mother, I had to walk down the back stairwell to leave! Talk about an ending to a crazy story!

I can't think of a better reason to start one of these things than the fact that we have a new addition to our family!
Our sweet little baby boy Owen Banks Duran was born on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at 6:54pm. What a perfect and beautiful miracle he is! He was born by c-section and everything went well. He weighed 7lbs, 9oz and measured 20 1/2 inches long.

There was plenty of drama from the very beginning! I went through labor for two days and finally ended in a c-section on tax day! Owen had some breathing problems from the very beginning and was monitored all that first night. He eventually got the hang of it and we finally got to see our little guy at 2:30 in the morning! We were finally complete!

Owen was a little jaundiced so he got his first tan right off the bat! Here he is catching a few rays under the blue light!
